Prevent Blindness names Matt MacDonald as Chair of Board of Directors

Prevent Blindness, has announced that Matt MacDonald, president and global head of managed care, EyeMed Vision Care, was appointed chair of its board of directors on November 14, at the 2025 Prevent Blindness annual board meeting here. MacDonald succeeds Jim McGrann, CEO of Advancing Eyecare, who was named an emeritus member of the board. At the same meeting, the organization added three new board members including Lori A. Archer, former CEO of UnitedHealthcare Vision; Paul Delatore, global head of market access at Alcon; and Cadmus Rich, MD, MBA, principal consultant, ClearSight LLC, and chief medical officer of Visara, Inc. Dr. Rich will serve as board treasurer, and Jacqueline Herd, DNP, RN, NEA-BC, FACHE, was re-elected board secretary.

“As we enter 2026, I am thrilled to have this impressive roster of leaders on the Prevent Blindness board of directors, to guide us in our efforts to expand access to eyecare, support educational initiatives that save sight, and help us grow and evolve so that we can continue our mission to serve as the nation’s trusted partner in eye health,” said Jeff Todd, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness.

In making the announcement, Prevent Blindness also said that Michael C. Vitale, ABOM, vice president, membership, government relations and technical affairs for The Vision Council, and vice chair of the board of directors for Prevent Blindness Texas, was elected as the chief volunteer officer co-chair of the Prevent Blindness Affiliate Association. Amy Pulles, president and CEO of Prevent Blindness Ohio, was re-elected as the CEO co-chair of the association. Vitale will serve as a voting member of the board of directors and Pulles will serve as a non-voting member, the organization said.

During the annual meeting, Prevent Blindness also presented two national awards. Jeanne Burmeister, executive director of Prevent Blindness Iowa, received the F. Park Lewis Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of 30 years of service, and Mitchell Brinks, MD, MPH, assistant professor of ophthalmology at Oregon Health & Science University and chair of the Prevent Blindness public health and policy committee, received the Louisa Lee Schuyler Award for outstanding volunteer contributions to the organization’s mission.
